The San Luis Obispo County Map and Visitors Guide is now out. Pictured on the cover is yours truly, my wife Traci and child actress Lela! It was a fun afternoon filming and shooting while hiking beautiful Madonna Mountain. Next year, we'll be on the cover of the business directory as well! Central Coast Talent, kids and Big Brothers Big Sisters gets huge exposure! If you did not know it, I just finished a community talent show benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters. We made the front page of SLO City News & got major event coverage from KSBY/NBC during the show! These kids look amazing- looks like shots from American Idol! I just had a good conversation about "shifts" in behavior. Be it sales, poker or life, people show signs of "shifts" when making big decisions or being put in tough situations. For instance, if someone is proposing something to you and their feet move forward, they are revealing a sign of comfort and confidence... They think they "got you." However, if their feet shift back (especially if they curl around chair legs), they are showing signs of fear or uncertainty. It is amazing how direct some signs can be! Watch for general body language postures and see what "shift" takes place under stress.
Last months trivia question asked what the difference is between Bicycle cards, regular cards, paper finishes, etc. (By the way, check out our new Playing Cards!)
You'd be blown away at the variety of cards out there. As far as quality goes, there are indeed finishes that make dealing cards or performing magic better. If you feel the surface of a kiddie deck of cards, you'll notice they are smooth like a glossy business card. They tear easily, dent easily and do not shuffle well. If you look at Bicycle cards, you'll notice that the cards have an embossing pattern all over them. This helps the cards slide across each other. "Air cushion finish" is a must for spreading, fanning and dealing smoothly. Any cards will work, but triple layer, satin finish and embossed cards do the job right! Next time you are getting cards, buy a deck of RF Cards or buy other United States Playing Cards and see how well they hold up.
Did you ever notice the size of cards? Hold some generic cards next to casino, Bicycle or similar cards. You'll notice that they are 1/4" difference in width! Casinos, magician and card experts only use full size cards with high quality finishes. It makes a big difference in response, feel, longevity and more.
Europe, here we come! I'll be on tour with Full Tilt Poker for a couple weeks at the Exhibition Center in Hamburg, Germany and the Salzburg Arena, Austria. It will be quite a big showcase of Chip Tricks during my lessons to pros and non-pros all over Europe. I'll be showcasing some magic on stage for thousands of Germans and Austrians over two weeks.
