Learn a Card Trick! - A Counting Mystery!
How to do the trick:
The secret is in setting up the deck before the trick. By ordering the deck in a precise way, the trick works itself! Get your deck of cards, and set them up this way:
1) Separate the cards into the four suits. So, you'll end up with four piles of 13 cards each.
2) Order each suit as follows:
5 - 9 - 10 - K - J - 2 - 4 - 6 - Q - A - 7 - 8 - 3.
Order these face up, from bottom to top, so that the three is on top, face up.
3) Place all four packets together. Your deck is all set.
Place the deck face up on the table. When you have the volunteer cut the deck, have them keep cutting the deck (and completing the cut) until a three is on top. (If they have cut the cards three of four times and you still don't get a three showing, you can take the deck yourself and say, "I'll give the deck one last cut," and casually cut to a three.) Then, take the deck and hand it to them face-down. Have them count off the top 13 cards from the top and set the rest of the deck aside.
They now should be holding the pack of thirteen cards face down in their hand. Instruct them to count out the word ACE by placing the top card under the bottom of the pack and saying "A". (Keep the card face down during this). Then, repeat for C and E. Then have them deal the next card face up on the table, and WOW, it's an ace! Repeat for all the cards in the pack!
Practice it a couple of times yourself before doing it for your friends. If you really want to add professional magic to the trick, come up with a story about the cards and how they can order themselves magically. Your story can be about anything you like: maybe ghosts? Trained cards? Magnets in your hands? You can be creative and build a cool patter that will enhance the trick with your OWN magic!
